Grinnell College’s Sophia de los Reyes ’23, from Hawthorn Woods, Ill. (Lake Zurich), has been named the Midwest Conference Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week.
De los Reyes earned a pair of key victories as Grinnell won a 6-3 battle over MWC preseason favorite Lake Forest College, a team that defeated the Pioneers twice in crucial matches last season. She and Sabrina Tang ’23 gained the team’s lone doubles win at the second spot, and then de los Reyes clinched the Pioneers’ victory with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. De Los Reyes also posted singles and doubles wins earlier in the day against Beloit College (6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and 8-1 with Tang at No. 1 doubles).
The Pioneers remained perfect on the season at 5-0 and have won 33 of their last 34 MWC matches, dating back to 2015. De los Reyes owns a 6-1 singles mark and is a combined 4-0 in doubles matches this season.
