Box Score MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Grinnell College women's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak halted Tuesday with a 57-45 setback at unbeaten Monmouth College.
Tolu Alabi '13 led the Pioneers with 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting, while
Alissa Hirsh '16 and
Cristal Coleman '16 had nine apiece.
Michelle Briggs '13 pulled down nine rebounds and Alabi added seven.
Hirsh dished out three assists for the Pioneers, who are 2-1 in the Midwest Conference and 3-3 in all games, Briggs had a pair of blocks and Alabi came up with four steals.
Monmouth improved to 3-0 in the MWC and 7-0 in all games.
Grinnell led by four a handful of times in the first half, the last when Briggs' free throws made it 19-15 with 6:29 left. However, the hosts rolled back and built a nine-point cushion before leading 28-22 at halftime.
The Pioneers got as close as five in the second half when a jumper by Hirsh hit a jumper at the 15:23 mark to make it 34-29. But Monmouth took off again and won by 12.
Grinnell travels to De Pere, Wis., for a contest at St. Norbert College on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
