APPLETON, Wis. – The Grinnell College men's tennis team went a perfect 3-for-3 in matches with Midwest Conference North Division teams over the weekend.
The Pioneers stopped Ripon College 8-1 on Friday, and then came back Saturday to top St. Norbert College 7-2 and Lawrence University 8-1.
Grinnell, ranked 15th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, improved to 21-5 with the wins.
In the victory over Ripon, Grinnell swept singles play with victories by
Charlie Wilhelm '15,
Conor Cunningham '15,
Aaron Lapkin '15,
Colin Johnson '13,
Rob Storrick '15 and
Jimmy Yang '15.
All six wins were in straight sets, and Lapkin and Johnson did not lose a single game.
Lapkin and Johnson won at No. 1 doubles and Wilhelm and Yang teamed up to post an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Grinnell also swept singles against St. Norbert with wins by
Elliott Czarnecki '15,
Eric Ritter '12,
Daniel Nellis '13, Wilhelm, Cunningham and Storrick. Cunningham did not surrender a game.
In doubles, Johnson and Lapkin teamed up to win at No. 3.
Again, it was a clean sweep for Grinnell in singles play against Lawrence. Czarnecki, Ritter, Nellis,
Ishan Bhadkamkar '13, Johnson and Cunningham were all on the winning end. Bhadkamkar did not lose a single game.
Doubles winners were
Benjamin Charney '15 and Bhadkamkar at No. 2 and Johnson and Lapkin at No. 3.
Grinnell attempts to finish off a perfect MWC South Division run next Saturday when Monmouth College visits the 10th Avenue Courts. Match time is 11 a.m.
