GRINNELL – Luther College worked past Grinnell College 6-3 in a battle of regionally-ranked men's tennis teams Sunday afternoon at 10th Avenue Courts.
Ishan Bhadkamkar '13 was a double winner for Grinnell, winning 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and 8-5 with
Benjamin Charney '15 at No. 2 doubles. The Pioneers' other win came from
Charlie Wilhelm'15 at No. 5 singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Grinnell, ranked 15th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, is now 22-6 while No. 12 Luther moved to 19-5.
“Our guys played really well in doubles today,” said Grinnell coach
Andy Hamilton. “If we can build off of today's matches, it will definitely enable us at the Midwest Conference Tournament.
“Charlie and Ishan showed great poise after slow starts in their singles matches,” he added. “They both took coaching points and executed the adjustments well. All of our singles players competed hard. I'm especially pleased with
Daniel Nellis, who seemed to get his game back on track despite his loss.”
The Pioneers will compete in the MWC Championships next weekend.
