Grinnell men see season end at NCAA Regional event

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Grinnell College men's tennis team saw its 2011-12 campaign draw to a close Friday with a 5-1 loss to Coe College at the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Grinnell, ranked 14th regionally, fell to 24-7 with the loss. The 24 victories are the second-most in school history and just one shy of the program record of 25. Coe, ranked 13th in the region and 30th in the nation, moves on with a 23-7 mark.

The Pioneers' win came at No. 1 doubles, as Elliott Czarnecki '15 and Michael Cole '12 posted a 9-8 decision over Noah Sprinkel and Sean Stokstad. Falling at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles were the tandems of Ishan Bhadkamkar '13 –Benjamin Charney '15 and Aaron Lapkin '15-Colin Johnson '13.

In singles, Eric Ritter '12 was defeated at the No. 2 spot, Bhadkamkar lost at No. 4 and Charney at No. 5.
