Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The perfect trend continued for the Grinnell College men's basketball team Wednesday with a 122-92 victory over Monmouth College at Darby Gymnasium.
Jack Taylor '15 poured in 41 points for Grinnell, while
Aaron Levin '14 had a big game with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Luke Yeager '15 added 17 points, while
Patrick Maher '14 and
Julian Marx '17 had 12 each.
Maher also had six assists, while Taylor and
Kyle Parker '17 had three steals each as Grinnell forced 33 turnovers with the aid of 18 steals.
The Pioneers are now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Midwest Conference, while Monmouth fell to 2-4 in all games and 1-2 in the league.
Grinnell shot out to a fast start, scoring 11 of the game's first 13 points. Taylor had five points during the early run, Yeager scored four and Levin had two.
Monmouth rallied though, drawing as close as three before Grinnell bounced back and took a 56-48 lead into the locker room.
Grinnell still led by just eight points before going on a critical eight-point run to pull away.
Tague Zachary '15 began the spurt with a 3-pointer,
Dylan Bartuch added a pair of free throws and Yeager drained a trey to put the hosts ahead 72-56 with 16:50 left.
Monmouth never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Grinnell has its biggest game of the season Saturday when St. Norbert College visits Darby Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. test. The Green Knights are 18th in the latest D3hoops.com national rankings and are the preseason MWC favorites.
