WATERLOO, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's tennis team lost a 7-1 decision to Luther College in a battle of regionally-ranked teams Sunday.
Grinnell, ranked 14th in the Central Region with an 18-11 record, got its win at No. 6 singles from
Aaron Lapkin '15. He rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 decision. Luther, 16th in the region, is now 8-9.
“Heading into the match, I thought we would be very competitive with Luther,” said Grinnell coach
Andy Hamilton. “I gave them a slight advantage based on results versus common opponents, and hat's off to their squad for good execution at important times in the match. I think the Grinnell guys will learn from playing very competitive tennis against a good squad and we have some work to do to get ready for the completion of the Midwest Conference schedule. But I'm excited to see what my guys have to offer.”
Grinnell hits the road next weekend to face MWC foes Monmouth College and Illinois College.
