Grinnell men win 13th consecutive MWC South title, stretch division winning streak to 51 matches

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Grinnell College men's tennis team won its 13th Midwest Conference South Division title in a row while extending its winning streak in divisional play to 51 matches Saturday with a 6-3 decision over Monmouth College.

The 51-match divisional winning streak dates back to 2000. With the win, Grinnell improved to 20-11 overall and 4-0 in the MWC South. This is the fourth year in a row and sixth in program history the Pioneers have reached the 20-win plateau.

Monmouth fell to 8-8 in all matches and 2-1 in the MWC South.

Double winners for Grinnell were C.J. Ray '16 and Tracy Johnson '16. Ray won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and teamed with Aaron Lapkin '15 to win 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Johnson was a 6-1, 6-2 victor at No. 5 singles and teamed with Colin Johnson '13 to post an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Grinnell's other win came from Charlie Wilhelm '15 at No. 6 singles. He swept his foe 6-0, 6-0.

The Pioneers' next action is the Midwest Conference Tournament next weekend, beginning with the team event on Friday.
