Grinnell men's tennis team sweeps past Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's tennis team swept past Midwest Conference South Division foe Cornell College on Saturday, winning by a 9-0 score.

Two-time winners for the Pioneers, who improved to 2-0 in the division and 18-8 overall, were Elliott Czarnecki '15, Emilio Gomez '15, Tracy Johnson '16, Colin Johnson '13 and Aaron Lapkin '15.

Singles winners, in order from 1 through 6, were Czarnecki (6-2, 6-2), Gomez (7-5, 6-2), C.J. Ray '16 (6-3, 6-4), Tracy Johnson (6-4, 4-1, retired), Lapkin (7-5, 6-2) and Colin Johnson (7-5, 6-0).

In doubles, Czarnecki and Gomez won 9-7 at No. 1, Tracy and Colin Johnson '13 posted an 8-4 victory at the second spot and Lapkin teamed up with Benjamin Charney '15 to win 8-4 at No. 3.

Cornell dipped to 1-1 in the MWC South and 10-4 in all matches.

Grinnell is slated to play at Coe College in Cedar Rapids Sunday.
