Grinnell tennis team works past Carleton in battle of regionally-ranked team

OWATONNA, Minn. – The Grinnell College men's tennis team emerged victorious in a battle of regionally-ranked teams Sunday.

The Pioneers, ranked 15th in the Central Region, worked past No. 10 Carleton College 5-4.

Emilio Gomez '15, Tracy Johnson '16 and Cole Miller '17 each had a hand in two victories for the Pioneers. Gomez won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Johnson posted a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 5 singles and those two combined to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Miller pulled out a 1-6, 6-0, 10-8 victory at No. 3 singles and teamed with C.J. Ray '16 to win 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Grinnell is now 6-1, while Carleton fell to 2-2.

The Pioneers host South Dakota State University on Monday afternoon. Action at the Charles Benson Bear '39 Recreation and Athletic Center Field House begins at 1 p.m.
