Pioneer men's tennis team sets school record for wins

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Grinnell College men's tennis team made history Sunday with a pair of dual meet victories.

Grinnell defeated both Lake Forest College and Dominican University by 9-0 scores to set a school record for wins in a season. The Pioneers are now 27-3, topping the previous mark of 25 victories in 2006.

Singles winners against Lake Forest were Elliott Czarnecki '15 (6-1, 6-1), Emilio Gomez '15 (6-2, 6-0), Cole Miller '17 (6-1, 6-3), Tommy Pitcher '17 (6-0, 6-4), Tracy Johnson '16 (6-2, 6-2) and Charlie Wilhelm '15 (6-0, 6-1).

Czarnecki and Pitcher won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while the teams of Gomez-Johnson and Miller-Rob Storrick '15 each won 8-2.

Winning singles contests against Dominican were Czarnecki (6-1, 6-4), Wilhelm (6-0, 6-0), Storrick (6-2, 6-1), Sam Catanzaro '16 (6-0, 6-1), Caleb Kumar '16 (6-0, 6-1) and Will Hamilton '17 (6-0, 6-0).

Czarnecki and Pitcher won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, Catzanaro and Hamilton posted an 8-1 victory and Wilhelm and Kumar earned an 8-0 decision.

The Pioneers travel to Wheaton, Ill., to play Wheaton and Elmhurst next Saturday.
