Pioneer men's tennis team picks up 3 victories

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's tennis team improved to 16-3 on the season with a trio of victories Saturday.

Playing as a split squad, the Pioneers won two matches at the Charles Benson Bear '39 Recreation and Athletic Center Field House and one contest at Central College in Pella.

The Pioneers earned 8-1 home wins over Lawrence University and Hastings College.

Elliott Czarnecki '15 won at No. 1 singles against Lawrence, while those winning at Nos. 3 through 6 were Rob Storrick '15, Bryson Cale '16, Sam Catanzaro '16 and Will Hamilton '17. The Pioneers swept doubles with the teams of Czarnecki-Tommy Pitcher '17, Cole Miller '17-C.J. Ray '16 and Cale-Storrick.

A short time later, Grinnell earned a 6-3 victory at Central. The Pioneers swept doubles with the teams of Emilio Gomez '15-Tracy Johnson '16, Miller-Ray and Charlie Wilhelm '15-Beau Bressler '16. In singles, Johnson won at the second spot, Ray at No. 3 and Wilhelm at No. 4.

Grinnell finished off the day with the win over Hastings. Czarnecki won at No. 1 singles, while Pitcher, Ray, Johnson and Wilhelm won at Nos. 3-6. Doubles wins came from the teams of Czarnecki-Pitcher, Gomez-Johnson and Miller-Ray.

Grinnell's next matches will be in Orlando, Fla., over spring break.
