Pioneer men's tennis team goes unbeaten in MWC South for 14th consecutive season

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's tennis team finished Midwest Conference South Division play unbeaten for the 14th consecutive year Saturday with a 6-3 win over Monmouth College at 10th Avenue Courts.
 
The Pioneers improved to 4-0 in the South while extending their winning streak in divisional play to 55 matches, dating back to 2001. Grinnell is 29-3 overall, while Monmouth fell to 0-1 in the MWC South and 9-11 overall.
 
Grinnell was behind 2-1 after doubles, but stormed back with five wins in singles play. Those came from Elliott Czarnecki '15 at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3), Emilio Gomez '15 at No. 2 (6-3, 6-3), Tommy Pitcher '17 at No. 4 (6-4, 6-3), C.J. Ray '16 at No. 5 (6-0, 6-4) and Tracy Johnson '16 at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0).
 
Cole Miller '17 and Ray also teamed up to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Grinnell travels to Decorah on Sunday to face Luther College in a battle of regionally-ranked teams.
