WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Grinnell College women's basketball team hung with Carroll University early on, but the hosts used a 19-2 run to pull away en route to a 75-49 Midwest Conference victory Saturday.
Kayla Morrissey '18 had a game-high 16 points for the visitors, who dropped to 4-5 in the MWC and 6-8 overall. She also had eight rebounds, as did
Alex Neckopulos '17.
Neckopulos,
Alissa Hirsh '16 and
Alex Plemmons '15 had two steals apiece, while
Lydia Stariha '17 dished out three assists.
Malory Christensen scored 12 points for the hosts, who moved to 8-1 in the MWC and 11-3 in all games.
After falling behind 8-2, Grinnell raced back into contention as Morrissey, Neckopulos and
Anne Boldt '16 all made baskets to tie things at 8-all with 12:33 left in the first half.
But Carroll scored the next eight points on its way to the 19-2 spurt en route to a 35-16 halftime lead. The hosts scored the first 12 points of the second half to pull away for the win.
Grinnell heads to Mount Vernon Wednesday to face Cornell College in a league test. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
