Pioneer women's soccer team collects 1st MWC victory of the season

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's soccer team came up big Saturday afternoon, posting its first Midwest Conference victory with a 2-0 decision over Monmouth College at Springer Field.

Both goals for the Pioneers, who moved to 1-4 in league play and 3-8 overall, came in the first half.

Just 2:42 into the game, Kitt Richards scored on an assist by Nora Sahel. On the play, Sahel passed the ball back to Richards from center field at the top of the box. She shot it at the keeper, who swatted it out of the air. She then got the rebound and sent it into the goal.

In the 37th minute, Jordan Maddaus scored. Carolyn Silverman got a well-placed ball, dribbled it into the right side of the box flanked by two defenders. She shot it and it ricocheted off the keeper. Maddaus came up from the left side and headed it into the goal.

Grinnell outshot Monmouth 11-8, with Richards taking three shots and Silverman, Andie Semlow and Hannah Truesdale two each.

Katy Oldach recorded seven saves in posting the shutout.
