GRINNELL, Iowa – Knox College used a big second half to pull away from the Grinnell College football team for a 26-12 win Saturday afternoon at Rosenbloom Field.
Grinnell took the lead in the first period when
Carson Dunn rumbled in from a yard out with 5:05 left. The extra point was no good.
Knox grabbed a 7-6 edge in the second period before
Graham Fisher put the Pioneers up 9-7 with a 21-yard field goal at the 3:51 mark. However, the visitors scored with 13 seconds left in the half for a 13-9 halftime lead.
Knox made it 19-9 in the third period and 26-9 in the fourth before Fisher booted a 26-yard field goal with 9:28 left in the game to account for the final score.
Sam Poulos completed 15-of-25 passes for Grinnell for 131 yards and also led the rushing attack with 63 yards. Top receivers were
Greg Ruzich (five catches for 28 yards),
Jacob Bernholtz (four catches for 25 yards) and Dunn (three catches for 39 yards).
Ryan Slager posted 19 tackles for the Pioneers,
Barrett Morrissette had 17 and
Jacob Beecher 14.
Grinnell is now 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Midwest Conference South Division, while Knox moved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the division.
