GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team halted a three-match losing streak Wednesday afternoon by shutting out the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 2-0 at Springer Field.
Katy Oldach posted the shutout from the keeper spot and recorded 10 saves for Grinnell. That allowed her to tie Laura McElroy for the school record for career saves with 302 while moving into second in career shutouts with 12.7.
Carolyn Silverman scored both of Grinnell's goals in the second half as the Pioneers improved to 5-11. UW-Platteville dipped to 3-12.
Silverman's first goal came in the 49th minute on an assist by
Nora Sahel. On the play, there was a shot on goal in the middle of the box that was swatted away by the keeper. It was rebounded by Sahel, who passed behind a defender to Silverman who kicked it above the left hand of the keeper.
In the 70th minute, Silverman scored on an assist from
Andie Semlow. Semlow dribbled up the right side of the field and passed it across to Silverman, who beat a defender and dribbled into the box. She kicked it past the diving keeper for the score.
Grinnell won the shots battle 16-13, with Silverman taking seven shots and
Kristen Stacey and
Lilyrose Weiss two each.
Grinnell closes out its season at home Saturday against Beloit College.
