PELLA, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's basketball team got back on the winning track Monday night with a big defensive performance, topping Central College 53-40 in non-conference play.
Grinnell forced 18 turnovers while improving to 4-3 on the season. Central dipped to 1-5.
Kayla Morrissey '18 had 19 points for Grinnell, while
Sophia Gatton '17 tallied nine.
Alex Neckopulos '17 had seven rebounds,
Alissa Hirsh '16 dished out five assists and four players had one steal each.
The game was never in question, as Grinnell scored 12 of the first 14 points.
Anne Boldt '16 hit a layup before Central scored a basket. Then the Pioneers rolled, as Morrissey hit a 3-pointer, a jumper and another trey for a 10-2 Grinnell lead.
Neckopulos added a jumper to make it 12-2 with 5:17 left in the first period. The Pioneers led 18-7 after one period and 25-16 at halftime.
Grinnell steps back into Midwest Conference play Saturday by hosting Carroll University at Darby Gymnasium.
