LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Grinnell College men's basketball team saw its five-game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon as Lake Forest College pulled away down the stretch for a 101-94 victory in Midwest Conference action.
The Pioneers, who were outshot 50-14 in free throw attempts, are 10-6 in the league and 12-9 overall. Lake Forest improved to 9-8 in MWC play and 10-11 in all games.
Jack Taylor '15 had a game-high 29 points for Grinnell, while
Luke Yeager '15 scored 16 and
Julian Marx '17 had 15.
Tague Zachary '15 added six rebounds and two blocks, while
Kyle Parker '17 and Marx each dished out three assists. Mark also had three steals and
Nick Curta '17 a pair of blocks.
Grinnell got out to a great start, using an 11-2 run to build a 24-13 cushion with 13:02 remaining. Parker began the spurt with a 3-pointer and Zachary a layup. After a basket by Lake Forest, Taylor and
Braedon Bayer '18 had consecutive treys.
However, Lake Forest came back to take a 51-40 halftime lead.
The hosts built their lead as big as 15 early in the second half before Grinnell raced back to tie it at 74-all on Yeager's 3-pointer with 7:39 left.
Lake Forest then scored and still was up by just two a bit latertill was up by just two a bit later after Bayer's free throw at the 6:26 mark. However, the hosts came back with a six-point run to go up by eight and never looked back.
The Pioneers have their final home game Wednesday when Knox College visits Darby Gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
