MONMOUTH, Ill. – After losing to Monmouth College earlier this season, the Grinnell College men's basketball team roared back in dominating fashion on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers rolled past the Midwest Conference's second-place team 108-82 to assist their aim at making the league's postseason tourney and stretching their winning streak to four games.
Grinnell is now 9-5 in the MWC and 11-8 overall, while Monmouth fell to 10-4 in the league and 13-6 in all games.
Jack Taylor '15 tallied 27 points for the winners, while
Julian Marx '17 drained 6-of-9 shots from 3-point land and had 21.
Kyle Parker '17 contributed 10 points.
Luke Yeager '15 dished out four assists and
Tague Zachary '15 and
Ikaika Phillip '15 each had four boards.
It was all Grinnell from the start as the Pioneers bolted out to a 15-4 lead. Those points all came via 3-pointers by
Mike Porter '17,
Braedon Bayer '18,
Nathan Balcom '18,
Matt Jasaitis '18 and Marx.
Grinnell went up by as many as 24 and led 60-42 at halftime. The Pioneers continued to cruise from there for the win.
The Pioneers celebrate Senior Day on Saturday when Carroll University visits Darby Gymnasium. Game time is at 3 p.m.
