WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Grinnell College baseball team dropped decisions of 9-2 and 6-4 to Hope College on Tuesday.
In the first game,
Niko Takayesu '17 had two hits for the Pioneers, while
Graham Fisher '16 had a double.
Hope scored four runs in the first inning before the Pioneers scored twice in the third on Fisher's two-run double. Hope added two runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to secure the win.
Andrew Mack '18 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell.
In the second game,
Ryan Penaflor '15 and
Teague Towner '17 each had two hits. Takayesu and
Anthony Mack '16 each had doubles.
Grinnell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBIs by
Steven Petritis '15 and Takayesu. Hope scratched out three runs in the third inning before Grinnell cut the lead to 3-2 on Towner's RBI single in the sixth.
After Hope scored three runs in the top of the seventh,
Sam Galanek '18 had an RBI in the bottom of the frame to account for the final score.
Noah Mathews '17 worked the entire game on the mound for Grinnell and fanned four batters.
Grinnell, 1-4 on the season, plays St. Norbert College on Wednesday.
