REDLANDS, Calif. – The Grinnell College softball squad opened its 2015 campaign Tuesday, losing 12-3 and 11-5 to the University of Redlands.
Grinnell had five hits in the opener, a double by
Sage Juveland '17 and singles by
Andi Leff '18,
Kayla Morrissey '18,
Megan Gibson '17 and
Melissa Anderson '18.
Grinnell scored first in the opener with a solo run in the third frame on Juveland's RBI double to right-center field. The hosts responded with four runs in the bottom of the third and eight more in the fourth.
Grinnell scored twice in the fifth on Leff's sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Anderson.
Anderson was the pitcher of record in the contest.
In the second game,
Kristina Weber '16 had two of the Pioneers' seven hits. Redlands scored three runs in the first and fourth more in the second before the Pioneers tallied once in the fourth and four more times in the fifth to make it 7-5.
Weber had an RBI single up the middle in the fourth and two-run single in the fifth. Morrissey added an RBI in the fifth and Gibson a sacrifice fly.
Redlands scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the scoring.
Gibson was the pitcher of record for Grinnell.
The Pioneers meet Augsburg College on Wednesday.
