Pioneer men's soccer team blanks Ripon

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's soccer team bolted out to a 4-0 halftime lead on its way to shutting out Ripon College 5-0 Saturday afternoon at Springer Field.

Evan Sorenson '19 scored the Pioneers' first two goals, while Ambar Kakkar '16, Caelum Froikin '16 and Michael Hurley '16 also found the back of the net.

Major May '17 and Michael Nattinger '18 shared keeper duties for Grinnell, with Nattinger recording a save.

Grinnell won the shots battle 21-2, with Hurley taking four and Sorenson and Antonio Dimarco '18 three apiece.

Sorenson opened the scoring in the 16th and 20th minutes. On the first goal, he received a pass from the middle of the field. He then dribbled it around in the midfield, into the right side of the box and shot it on the ground to the bottom right corner of the net past the diving keeper.

On the second goal, a ball was shot Artis Curiskis '18, which was saved by the keeper. As he knocked the ball down and it rolled along the goal line, Sorenson came up with it in the left side of the box and tapped it in.

Kakkar scored in the 29th minute on Hurley's assist, and Froikin scored in the 38th minute. On Kakkar's goal, Hurley had possession and passed it behind a defender, who came out to guard Kakkar. He ran behind the defender, met the ball at the corner and kicked it past the sliding defender.

On Froikin's goal, he received the ball and controlled it in the middle right of the box before firing in for the score.

Hurley complete4 the scoring with a solid goal in the 54th minute on a feed by Curiskis.
