GRINNELL, Iowa – In what's already become a season of big accomplishments, the Grinnell College women's basketball team added to that list Saturday afternoon.
Alissa Hirsh '16 put in a layup after driving the left side of the lane as time expired, propelling the Pioneers to a thrilling 65-63 win over Ripon College in a key Midwest Conference contest at Darby Gymnasium.
Hirsh finished with a game-high 20 points to go along with five assists and three steals.
Alex Neckopulos '17 recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while
Kayla Morrissey '18 had 13 points and
Sophia Gatton '17 put in 11.
Anne Boldt '16 added three steals for the Pioneers, who improved to 9-4 in the league and 12-8 overall. Ripon fell to 6-7 in the MWC and 10-8 in all games.
Ripon led 18-15 after one period, but Grinnell rallied for a 36-35 halftime lead. Ripon grabbed a 52-51 lead heading into the final period and was ahead by as many as five before Morrissey hit three consecutive shots for a 59-58 Grinnell lead.
The teams went back and forth after that and were tied at 63-all before Hirsh's heroics.
