GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team put up a valiant fight Saturday before losing 2-1 to Illinois College at Springer Field.
The Pioneers more than doubled the Lady Blues' shot total, winning that battle 18-7.
Illinois College, 3-1 in the Midwest Conference and 6-3-1 overall, led 1-0 at halftime before
Hannah Truesdale '17 tied it in the 51st minute on an assist by
Simona Bambi '20. It was Truesdale's second goal of the season.
On the play, Bambi dribbled the ball from the middle over to the right side, just outside the box. She passed it diagonally to the right corner of the box, where Truesdale sent a shot high in the air that curved perfectly over the keeper's hands.
However, the Lady Blues scored in the 56th minute to secure the victory.
Carolyn Silverman '17 had six shots for the Pioneers, who are 2-1-1 in the league and 4-5-2 overall, while
Lauren Hurley '18 had four.
Shaina Zarkin-Scott 18 added three shots and Truesdale two.
Regan Kasprak '19 recorded four saves as Grinnell's keeper.
