Pioneer women's soccer team celebrates Senior Day with victory

GRINNELL, Iowa – It was Senior Day, and the Grinnell College women's soccer team celebrated in appropriate fashion.

Senior Hannah Truesdale '17 took advantage of the big day by scoring just four minutes into the action as the Pioneers defeated Lawrence University 1-0 Sunday at Springer Field.

Grinnell outshot the Vikings 27-6 and Regan Kasprak '19 recorded her fifth shutout of the season as the Pioneers kept in the hunt of qualifying for postseason play.

The Pioneers, whose shot total of 27 and shots on goal total of 14 were both season highs, are now 4-2-1 in the Midwest Conference and 6-6-2 in all games. Lawrence dipped to 0-6 in the MWC and 1-11 overall.

Grinnell dominated from the start and Truesdale gave the Pioneers the only goal they'd need shortly into the contest. On the play, a shot attempt by Grinnell was blocked and Lawrence couldn't clear it. Truesdale gained possession of the ball in front of the goal and booted it in for the lead.

Carolyn Silverman '17 and Nora Sahel '17 each had five shots for Grinnell, Truesdale added three and Simona Bambi '20, Valencia Alvarez '20 and Elyse Salpekar '19 took two each.

Kasprak made four saves at the keeper spot.
