LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Grinnell College volleyball team lost a four-set contest at Lake Forest College in Midwest Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Foresters, who are 1-3 in the MWC and 5-12 overall, won the first set 25-15 before the Pioneers took the second 25-22. The hosts finished off the win with victories of 25-22 and 25-17.
Ariel Lepito '17 had seven kills for the Pioneers, who are 2-2 in the league and 9-9 in all matches.
Margaret Giles '18 added 29 assists, while
Emily Friedman '19 served up three aces.
Sydney Vrecenar '18 and
Olivia Fromm '17 had 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
Emma Willhardt '19 had a solo block and two assists, while Lepito added three blocks assists.
The Foresters led virtually the entire first set on their way to the win. The second set saw many ties, including 21-all, when Friedman served three consecutive points, two by aces.
After Lake Forest got the serve back, a Forester serving error propelled Grinnell to the three-point win.
Grinnell was within a point of Lake Forest late in the third set, as Fromm's ace made it a 17-16 Forester edge. But the hosts followed with a 3-1 run and went on to win.
Lake Forest broke out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set and continued for the victory.
