DE PERE, Wis. – The Grinnell College women's basketball team saw its milestone season come to an end Friday afternoon with an 81-61 loss to Cornell College in the Midwest Conference Tournament.
The Pioneers had 12 league wins in 2015-16, the most in program history, and their 15-9 overall record ranked among the most victories in the team's history.
Alissa Hirsh '16 led Grinnell with 17 points, while
Kayla Morrissey poured in 12. Alex Neckopoulos '17 grabbed 10 rebounds, while Hirsh dished out five assists and had two steals.
The game was tied 5-all early after Grinnell two got free throws from Morrissey and a 3-pointer by
Sophia Gatton '17. However, Cornell took off to lead 21-11 after the first period and led 49-27 at halftime. It was 67-40 after three periods.
Cornell, 19-5, will play in the title game Saturday.
