ST. LOUIS – The Grinnell College men's tennis team saw an amazing season come to an end Saturday with a 5-0 loss to nationally-ranked Washington University of St. Louis in the round of 32 of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
The Bears are the top-ranked team in the region and sixth nationally, while Grinnell is 15th regionally.
In doubles, Grinnell's
Tracy Johnson and
Sam Stickels gave the Bears a great run in the third slot before losing 9-7.
C.J. Ray and
Cole Miller lost 8-4 at No. 2 and
Jose Coloma and
Tommy Pitcher fell 8-2 at No. 1.
In singles, Coloma lost 6-3 at No. 1 and Miller lost 6-1 at No. 2.
Grinnell finishes its campaign at 30-6, the second-highest totals for wins in a season. The Bears move on with a 17-5 mark.
