CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Grinnell College men's soccer coach
Brian Jaworski said the Pioneers could put up a strong defensive front this season.
They responded Thursday night in the season opener, a 2-0 road blanking of Coe College.
Grinnell surrendered just five shots while taking 15 themselves, and all-conference keeper
Major May '17 added one save in more than 80 minutes of work before being relieved by
Jared Cloutier '20.
Grinnell struck almost immediately, as
Carlos Piedrasanta '20 found the back of the net in the fifth minute on
Antonio DiMarco's '18 assist.
It remained 1-0 at halftime and stayed the same until
Matt Record '20 gave Grinnell some breathing room with a goal in the 73rd minute on
Nick Brule's '17 assist.
Record tallied four shots for Grinnell and DiMarco three.
Francisco Sanchez-Conde '18 and Piedrasanta added two apiece.
Coe fell to 0-1 on the season. Grinnell, 1-0, entertains Albion College Saturday at Springer Field. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
