STORM LAKE, Iowa – Things looked difficult for the Grinnell College men's soccer team after falling behind 1-0 by halftime of Sunday's game with Buena Vista University.
But then the Pioneers exploded, scoring three times in a 15-minute span to defeat the Beavers 3-1 and ending a three-game losing streak.
Nick Brule '17 had two goals for the Pioneers, who are 2-3, while
Artis Curiskis '18 had the other. Buena Vista fell to 2-3 with the loss.
The Beavers scored in the seventh minute for their lead. The score was still 1-0 when Grinnell tied it in the 52
nd minute on a goal by Curiskis that was assisted by Brule.
Five minutes later Brule scored off a rebound of a blocked kick for a 2-1 Pioneers lead. Curiskis had the assist.
Brule gave Grinnell some breathing room in the 67
th minute with a goal on an assist by
Sidney Hotchkiss '20.
Grinnell won the shots battle 8-6, with Brule and
Juan Marin '18 taking two each.
Major May '17 was in goal for the Pioneers and turned away four shots.
Grinnell entertains Simpson College on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
