GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College fought valiantly to force action beyond regulation against Coe College in women's soccer Tuesday before falling 2-1 in double overtime at Springer Field.
Coe scored just 12 minutes into the contest and the score remained 1-0 until less than six minutes left in regulation when
Lilyrose Weiss '18 scored for the Pioneers. The play began with a free kick by Grinnell, which entered the box from the right side to the left. After some chaos in the box, Weiss headed the ball just across the goal line.
The first overtime was scoreless before Coe converted the game-winner in the 105th minute to improve to 3-3. Grinnell moved to 1-4-1.
Coe won the shots battle 18-14.
Carolyn Silverman '17 had five shots for Grinnell, all on goal.
Lauren Hurley '18,
Valencia Alvarez '20 and Weiss each had two shots.
Regan Kasprak was the keeper for the Pioneers and made nine saves.
The Pioneers entertain Nebraska Wesleyan University Saturday at Springer Field. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
