GRINNELL, Iowa – The good times continued Tuesday night for the Grinnell College volleyball team.
The Pioneers stretched their winning streak to three matches with a three-set sweep of Iowa Wesleyan, winning 25-18, 25-10 and 25-9 at Darby Gymnasium.
Grinnell dominated the net, posting a .393 hitting efficiency as a team. That figure ranks fourth in program history.
Individually,
Evelyn Weidman '17 hit an even .500 for the fifth-best effort by a Pioneer all-time. She had 10 kills on 20 attacks with no errors.
Olivia Fromm '17 added 11 kills and hit .423 (11 kills on 26 attempts with no errors), while
Margaret Giles '18 tallied 20 assists.
Christine Hood '17 and
Deanna Taylor '18 had 13 and 10 digs, respectively, while
Emma Willhardt '19 had a solo block and assist.
Grinnell improved to 4-3 with the win, while Iowa Wesleyan fell to 2-2.
The first set was close most of the way and had 10 ties. Grinnell took the lead for good on Hood's serve, which stretched a 15-all tie to an 18-15 lead. The Pioneers never trailed after that.
Grinnell shot out to a 5-0 lead in the second set, with
Emily Friedman '19 serving four points to get things going. The Pioneers cruised from there.
It was more of the same in the next set, as Friedman reeled off six consecutive points to start things off as Grinnell again won easily.
The Pioneers play in the Augustana College Viking Classic this weekend in Rock Island, Ill.
