GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team battled highly-touted University of Dubuque toe-to-toe for a majority of the contest before the Spartans went on to win 4-0 Wednesday at Springer Field.
Grinnell played a majority of the first half with the ball on the attacking side of the field as the teams played to a scoreless tie at intermission.
Dubuque, fresh off a win over the nation's 15th-ranked team, broke the deadlock with a goal in the 58th minute. The 3-0 Spartans added three more goals after that to secure the victory.
Grinnell was outshot 15-9 in the game, with
Leo Ewing '20 and
Zach Thal '18 each taking two shots for the Pioneers.
Major May '17 started the game at keeper for Grinnell and had three saves.
Jared Cloutier '20 added another save.
Grinnell, 1-2, entertains Hamline University at 3 p.m. Saturday at Springer Field.
