GRINNELL, Iowa – A tough day shooting from the field cost the Grinnell College women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium.
The Pioneers shot season-lows for field goal percentage (18.4) and 3-point percentage (7.1) as Ripon College grabbed a 65-31 Midwest Conference win.
Grinnell, 6-4 in the league and 8-7 overall, got 12 points and three assists from
Kayla Morrissey '18.
Haley Lopez '17 grabbed a career-high three steals to go along with six rebounds, one shy of her career-high.
Lydia Stariha '17 added four rebounds.
Ripon, 7-3 in the league and 9-6 in all games, shot out to a 12-2 lead before Grinnell came within six twice later in the first period, the last at 16-10 on a pair of free throws by Lopez.
Ripon scored a basket to close the period with an 18-10 edge, and upped that margin to 32-15 by halftime and 47-29 after three quarters.
The Pioneers will attempt to bounce back Wednesday with a game at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
