GREEN BAY, Wis. – A rough night of shooting hurt the Grinnell College women's basketball team in a 54-35 setback against St. Norbert College Friday.
The Pioneers made 25.6 percent of their field goals and sank just one 3-pointer while recording their lowest scoring output of the season.
Grinnell had a solid game from
Kayla Morrissey '18, who had eight points, five rebounds and two blocks.
Lydia Stariha '17 added eight points and
Sophia Gatton '17 had six.
Kaitlyn Norton contributed a career-high three steals as Grinnell moved to 3-3 in the Midwest Conference and 5-6 overall. St. Norbert is 4-2 in the league and 7-4 overall.
Grinnell kept it close early, as two free throws by Gatton and a layup by
Alex Neckopulos '17 made it a 7-4 game.
However, the Green Knights followed with a seven-point run on their way to a 14-6 edge by the end of the opening frame.
Morrissey and Norton kept the Pioneers alive early in the second quarter with consecutive baskets to make it a four-point game with 7:54 left in the half.
Again St. Norbert bounced back and took a 26-12 lead into the locker room. St. Norbert led 39-24 after three periods on its way to victory.
