LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Lake Forest College's unbeaten football team grabbed the early lead and kept it on its way to a 70-6 victory over Grinnell College Saturday.
Grinnell is now 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Midwest Conference, while Lake Forest improved to 3-0 in the MWC and 7-0 in all games.
The Pioneers got their touchdown in the second period, when
Tony Bergida '18 found
Carson Dunn '18 on a 7-yard pass play with 2:58 left. The seven-play, 80-yard drive included passes of 19 and 13 yards to Dunn and a 14-yard strike to
David Taylor '20.
Ryan Slager '19 had another huge defensive game, coming up with 15 tackles including eight solos. That moved him to 398 career tackles, third on Grinnell's all-time chart and just 20 away from the second spot.
Ben Lim '19 and
Reed Winter '21 added eight tackles each, while
Vinny Pavoni '19,
Rick Johnson '20 and
Hassan Thompson '19 had six each. Pavoni also forced a fumble and had an interception, while
Jelani McCray '21 had a fumble recovery.
Offensively, Dunn rushed for 95 yards and caught seven passes for 52 yards. Bergida completed 10-of-25 passes for 105 yards and Taylor had three catches for 31 yards.
The Pioneers entertain Illinois College at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Rosenbloom Field.
