GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College took command early and never relinquished it on its way to a 1-0 victory over Ripon College Saturday in a key women's soccer contest in terms of Midwest Conference Tournament contention.
Simona Bambi '20 scored her team-high sixth goal of the year in just the second minute at Springer Field. On the play, she took a feed from
Lauren Edwards '20 in the middle of the box and put a nice shot into the top left corner of the net. That marked the second assist of the year for Edwards.
It was the eighth goal of Bambi's career as Grinnell improved to 5-2 in the MWC and 9-6 in all contests. Ripon fell to 3-4 in league play and 9-6 overall.
Regan Kasprak '19 had a masterful performance at keeper for Grinnell, recording six saves while recording her fourth shutout of the season. Kasprak has 10 shutouts in her Pioneer career, a figure that ranks fourth in program history.
Grinnell dominated the shots battle 16-9, with Bambi taking four shots, and
Valencia Alvarez '20,
Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 and
Kitt Richards '18 two apiece.
The Pioneers entertain Cornell College at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Springer Field. A victory would propel Grinnell into the MWC Tournament.
