GALESBURG, Ill. - A battle of two Midwest Conference unbeatens turned out to be exciting as billed.
Grinnell College's women's soccer team battled Knox College for 108 minutes before the host Prairie Fire came away with a 2-1, double-overtime victory Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers took control in the 52nd minute when
Francesca Varias '18 connected on a goal off of
Shaina Zarkin-Scott's '18 corner kick. It was Varias' team-high fifth goal and the first assist of the season for Zarkin-Scott.
However, Knox tied the game in the 70th minute to force overtime. After one scoreless extra period and nearly a second, the Prairie Fire scored with less than two minutes left to earn the win.Â
Grinnell is now 3-1 in the MWC and 6-5 overall, while Knox moved to 4-0 in the league and 9-5 overall.
Grinnell keeper
Regan Kasprak '19 made six saves in the game. The Pioneers managed seven shots, with
