GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's basketball team passed Wednesday night's season-opening test with flying colors, posting a 74-63 victory over Emmaus Bible College at Darby Gymnasium.
Kayla Morrissey '18 finished one point below her career-high by tallying 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. She also had eight rebounds.
Regan Kasprak '19 had the best night of her career, earning highs of 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Olivia Woolam '21 got her collegiate career off to a great start with 11 points, as did
Tyria Heath '21 with eight rebounds and
Claire Collier '21 with seven.
Hanna Kessel '19 added a career-high five points for the Pioneers.
Emmaus jumped out to a 16-10 lead by the end of the first period, but the Pioneers stormed back with a 26-12 edge in the second frame. The big push was a 9-3 run where Kasprak and Kessel had baskets, Kessel followed with a 3-pointer and Morrissey a basket to turn a tied game into a 30-24 lead.
Grinnell was up 56-43 after three periods and cruised from there. With the loss, Emmaus dropped to 0-5.
The Pioneers are on the road Thursday, playing Central College in Pella at 7 p.m.
