GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's basketball team came up with a big performance Wednesday night, as five players scored in double figures in the Pioneers' 153-100 win over Emmaus Bible College at Darby Gymnasium.
Vinny Curta '19 shattered his previous career-high of 40 points with a 51-point effort, hitting 17-of-27 shots from the field. He also had four steals.
Hannes Kogelnik '21 overcame a slow start in his collegiate debut to nearly post a triple-double, coming up with 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. He hit seven 3-pointers.
Ky-Sean Johnson '19 added 16 points and four steals,
Sean Cullinane '18 had 12 points and
Brad Geiman '21 dunked his way to 10.
Ikaika Phillip '18 added a career-high four assists.
Grinnell led 6-5 early before opening things up with an 11-2 run. Curta began the spurt with a pair of layups and free throw, and
Zack Stice '21 added a pair of 3-pointers as Grinnell pushed ahead 17-7.
Emmaus got as close as five a bit later, but the Pioneers again took off and led 69-50 at halftime. They continued to cruise from there for the win. Emmaus dipped to 2-3 with the loss.
The Pioneers return to action Friday night when Wright State Lake visits Darby Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
