Pioneers move win streak to 4 games with win at Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. – Grinnell College's men's basketball team remained on its recent hot streak Tuesday night at Knox College
 
Five Pioneers scored in double digits, led by Sean Cullinane's '18 career-high 32 points, in a 124-81 Midwest Conference win over the Prairie Fire.
 
Grinnell stretched its winning streak to four games and is now 15-7 overall. Knox dipped to 2-20.
 
Cullinane's hot shooting included a career-high 10 3-pointers on 16 attempts.
 
Julian Marx '17 added 25 points as he moved into 10th all-time at Grinnell with 1,525 points in his career.
 
Griffin Boehm '19 scored a career-high 14 points and tied a career-best with three steals, and Vinny Curta '19 posted his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 assists, the latter tying a career-high.
 
Ky-Sean Johnson '19 poured in 10 points, Nick Curta '17 grabbed eight rebounds and Jacob Ekstrand '18 tied a career-high with two blocks.
 
Knox got out to a fast start, taking a 12-5 lead three minutes into the contest. Grinnell cut into the gap and trailed by two before taking command with a 12-2 run. Vinny Curta began the spurt with a free throw and Ekstrand drained a 3-pointer to put Grinnell ahead 29-27.
 
After a basket by Knox, Boehm sank two free throws, and Cullinane and Johnson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put Grinnell ahead 37-29 with 6:11 left in the half.
 
Later ahead by seven, the Pioneers went on a 10-2 run. Marx made two 3-pointers during the run and Vinny Curta added a basket and two free throws to make it a 52-37 lead with 2:19 left in the half.
 
Grinnell was up 56-47 at halftime before Johnson made a basket to open the second half and Cullinane a 3-pointer to make it a 14-point game. The Pioneers cruised from there for the victory.
 
Grinnell closes out its season at home Saturday, facing Illinois College on Senior Day. Game time at Darby Gymnasium is slated for approximately 5 p.m.
