TUCSON, Ariz. – Grinnell College's baseball team came up on the short end of things Saturday in a 4-0 setback to Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Pioneers got solid pitching performances from
Sam Lopez '18 and
Ben Binversie '17. Lopez issued two earned runs in five innings of work and Binversie tossed three-hit, one-run ball in the final three innings.
Matt Hammond '17 continued to be a terror behind the plate for opposing base runners, throwing out two Gusties to up his season total to seven.
Grinnell managed seven hits, with
Carson Gampell '20 and
Nathan Zaroban '18 coming up with two each.
Gustavus Adolphus scored a run in the second inning, two in the fourth and another in the seventh to improve to 6-3 on the season.
Grinnell, 5-7 overall, closes out its spring break trip Sunday with a game against Middlebury College.
