INDIANOLA, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's soccer team hung right with unbeaten Simpson College for most of Wednesday night's contest before two late goals secured a 4-1 victory for the hosts.
Simpson led 2-0 before the Pioneers cut the gap in half in the 78th minute on
Evan Sorenson's '19 second goal of the season. The goal came via
Antonio DiMarco's '18 assist on a corner kick to the far post. It was DiMarco's team-high third assist of the season as he boosted his career total to 18, tying Joey Brown for second on the Pioneers' all-time list.
The Storm survived the scare, though, scoring in the 88th and 89th minutes for the three-goal victory.
Grinnell managed 12 shots, including three by
Artis Curiskis '18 and two apiece by
Carlos Piedrasanta '20, Sorenson and
Jasper Yang '21. Curiskis, Piedrasanta and Sorenson each had two shots on goal.
Jared Cloutier '20 played keeper for Grinnell and had five saves. The Pioneers are now 1-4-1, while Simpson improved to 4-0.
Grinnell heads to Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday to face Nebraska Wesleyan University.
