JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Grinnell College's men's soccer team bounced back from last Sunday's heart-breaking loss to Lake Forest College in impressive fashion Saturday.
The Pioneers blanked Illinois College 2-0 to improve to 2-1 in the league and 4-6-1 overall. The Blueboys are 1-2 in the league and 6-6 overall.
Antonio DiMarco '18 and
Jared Cloutier '20 were the stars of the game for Grinnell. DiMarco scored both his team's goals, boosting his amazing season total to nine. He now has 24 career goals, moving him past Mark Rosenberg and
Nick Brule up to eighth on the Pioneers' all-time chart.
Additionally, DiMarco now has 68 career points to move past Andrew Walsh into seventh all-time at Grinnell.
Cloutier earned his first career shutout at keeper, making two saves in the process.
DiMarco's first goal came in the 21st minute on an assist by
Mikoto Kobayashi '20. On the play, Kobayashi crossed the ball from the left wing into the box, where DiMarco put it in.
DiMarco added another goal in the 83rd minute on a free kick.
The Pioneers won the shots battle 13-8, with DiMarco taking four,
Carlos Piedrasanta '20 taking and
Sidney Hotchkiss '20 taking two.
The Pioneers return to Springer Field Wednesday for a MWC contest with Cornell College. Action starts at 4:30 p.m.
