MONMOUTH, Ill. –
Max Hill '20 moved up Grinnell College football's all-time top 10 list in two categories in a 55-0 loss to defending Midwest Conference champion Monmouth College Saturday afternoon.
Grinnell battled bad field position nearly the entire afternoon while falling to 0-1 in the MWC South Division and 1-4 overall.
Hill, who returned a kickoff 14 yards, now ranks eighth in career kick returns at Grinnell with 46 and ninth in kick return yardage with 786.
David Taylor '20 led Grinnell in pass receptions with five for 43 yards, putting him 16th all-time in both receptions (92) and yards (1,262).
Ryan Slager '19 continued his march toward the NCAA Division III record for tackles, tallying a game-high 13 Saturday to give him 524 for his career. That is just seven shy of second place all-time and 21 from the lead.
Monmouth, 1-0 in the MWC South and 4-1 overall, got out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter, was up 28-0 at halftime and 42-0 after three quarters. Besides Slager, other defensive leaders for Grinnell were
Vinny Pavoni '19 with 11 tackles,
Rick Johnson '20 with seven and
Anthony Johnson '22 with six.
Jeff Keele '19 added a sack.
On offense, Hill had four catches for 47 yards and
Dustin Saia '22 two snags for 14 yards.
Jake Kaplinski '22 completed 12-of-26 passes for 99 yards.
Grinnell entertains Knox College next Saturday at Rosenbloom Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
