GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College tuned up for its annual spring break trip to Florida with a pair of victories Sunday at the Bear Center Field House.
Grinnell opened the day by blanking Central College 9-0 and then toppled Augustana College ??. The Pioneers improved to 8-2 on the season while stretching their winning streak to five matches.
Jack Lunn '20 and
George Kaslow '21 each claimed two wins against Central. Kaslow won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and teamed with Lunn to post a 9-8 decision at No. 3 doubles. Lunn added a 6-3, 7-6 victory at No. 5 singles.
Winning at the Nos. 1 through 3 singles spots were
Zach Lane '19 (7-5, 7-6),
Ishaan Tibrewal '21 (6-1, 6-0) and
Henry Johnson '20 (6-1, 6-1).
Arlo Detmer '20 earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 6 singles.
Sriram Sugumaran '21 and
Ben Cobin '20 teamed up to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and the duo of
Sam Stickels '19-
Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21 earned an 8-2 decision at the second spot.
Double winners in the Augustana match were Stickels, Cobin and Conlin-Brandenburg. Stickels and Cobin won marathons at Nos. 3 and 4 singles by scores of 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, respectively. Conlin-Brandenburg won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Tibrewal added a 7-6, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
Sugumaran and Cobin won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Stickels and Conlin-Brandenburg earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
