GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College remained unbeaten in Midwest Conference men's tennis play and stretched its winning streak against league foes to 140, dating back to 2002, with a pair of wins Saturday.
The Pioneers rolled over Lake Forest College 8-1 in a battle of teams unbeaten in MWC play, and then added a 9-0 win over Ripon College at the Bear Center Field House. That makes the Pioneers, who are ranked 17th in the Central Region, 5-0 in the MWC and 16-4 overall.Â
The win over Ripon was highlighted by
Edward Lopatto's '20 first collegiate tennis victory, a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles. Other singles wins came from
Zach Lane '19 (6-0, 6-0),
Henry Johnson '20 (6-0, 6-2),
George Kaslow '21 (6-0, 6-0),
Arlo Detmer '20 (6-2, 6-0) and
Peter Sills '18 (6-1, 6-0).
Grinnell got 8-0 shutout wins at the top two doubles spots with the duos of
Sam Stickels '19-
Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21 and
Ben Cobin '20-
Jack Lunn '20.
Lucas LeDoux '19 and
Nick Alex '20 won 8-1 at the third spot.
Grinnell swept doubles against Lake Forest with the teams of Stickels-Conlin-Brandenburg (8-2), Lane-
Ishaan Tibrewal '21 (8-2) and Cobin-Lunn (8-1).
In singles, the Pioneers won at the second through sixth spots with Stickels (6-2, 6-2), Cobin (6-2, 6-2), Conlin-Brandenburg (6-1, 6-1), Tibrewal (6-0, 6-0) and Johnson (6-0, 6-0).
Grinnell and Coe College meet up Sunday in a battle of regionally-ranked teams. Action begins at 11 a.m. at the Bear Center Field House.
