Pioneers punch ticket to MWC team tourney again with 8-1 win over IC

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's men's tennis squad kept its perfect Midwest Conference mark in check Saturday while claiming a spot in the league's postseason team tournament for the 22nd year in a row.
 
The Pioneers' 8-1 win over Illinois College at the Bear Center Field House pushed them to 6-0 in the MWC and 18-4 overall. The 17th-ranked team in the Central Region has now won 141 matches in a row against league foes and 87th consecutive in MWC play.
 
Additionally, Grinnell is riding an eight-match winning streak entering the regular-season finales tomorrow at home against Monmouth College and Knox College.
 
Double winners for Grinnell were Sam Stickels '19 and Ishaan Tibrewal '21. Stickels led a charge of Pioneers winning at the Nos. 2 through 6 spots with a 6-0, 6-2 decision at the second position. Tibrewal won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Henry Johnson '20 posted a 6-2, 6-0 decision at the fourth spot. Rounding out the singles wins were George Kaslow '21 (6-0, 6-0) and Arlo Detmer '20 (6-2, 6-0).
 
In doubles, the teams of Stickels-Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21, Tibrewal-Zach Lane '19 and Jack Lunn '20-Nick Alex '20 all won 8-1.
