APPLETON, Wis. - Grinnell College remained perfect in Midwest Conference men's tennis play Saturday by shutting out a pair of foes.
The 9-0 wins over St. Norbert College and Lawrence University pushed the Pioneers, who are ranked 17th in the Central Region, to 3-0 in the league and 14-4 overall.Â
In the St. Norbert win,
Michael Conlin-Brandenburg '21 posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 4 singles. Winning at the top three spots were
Zach Lane '19 (4-6, 7-6, 10-1),
Sam Stickels '19 (6-1, 6-0) and
Ben Cobin '20 (6-2, 6-2).
Ishaan Tibrewal '21 won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and
Henry Johnson '20 earned a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
In doubles, wins came from the duos of Stickels-Colin-Brandenburg (8-2), Tibrewal-Lane (8-5) and
Jack Lunn '20-
George Kaslow '21 (8-1).
Tibrewal had a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at No. 5 singles against Lawrence. Other winners were Lane, who had another comeback victory at 4-6, 7-6, 10-5, Stickels (6-2, 6-3), Cobin (7-6, 7-6), Conlin-Brandenburg (6-2, 6-0) and Johnson (6-2, 6-1).
Doubles winners were Stickels-Conlin-Brandenburg (8-5), Lane-Tibrewal (8-3) and Cobin-Lunn (8-2).
Grinnell entertains Lake Forest College and Ripon College next Saturday at the Grinnell High School courts.
